How I Heartbreak Maleficent's Blacklist

Megan Boone
Angelina Jolie
Cobie Smulders
Malin Akerman

Sometimes when watching TV shows or movies, R and I like to compare celebrities either to other celebrities or to people we know.

When I first started watching The Blacklist the main actress, Megan Boone, reminded me of a whole mess of actresses!

At first she reminded me of Cobie Smulders, Robin from How I Met Your Mother. Watching the show longer she started to remind me of a mix between Cobie and Angelina Jolie, everyone knows Angelina Jolie she's from so much. Then! At some angles she kind of looked like Malin Akerman, from Watchmen and The Heartbreak Kid.

So now, to me, she just looks like a mix of all these women together, and sometimes just one of them depending on the angle.

Jefferson Tongue Element

While listening to music, R and I either are reminded of other songs, or try to make a connection to other songs as well as what bands they seem to sound like to us.

This is a song I am obsessed with listening to lately, and damn the music video is interesting as well!
When this song opens up it instantly reminds me of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit song, and then the back vocals sound reminds me somewhat of the Diva’s song from the movie The Fifth Element—sounds nothing like it, just has that feeling to it that reminds me of the Diva when she sings
Mostly a comparison to sound again and not really sounding like something specific.

This is more of a style comparison rather than this sounds like that.

I discovered this song, as most people did, on one of the [last] episodes of Sons of Anarchy, amazing show, amazing and most perfect song for the scene.
I’ve been listening to this song now nonstop for days since I first heard it. I did notice that some of his rap style in the beginning reminded me somewhat of Eminem’s style, and then around 2:50 in his style kind of reminds me of Kanye’s.
Love Eminem, not really a [huge] fan of Kanye. But Yelawolf has an amazing song here, makes me want to listen to more of his stuff.

While listening to music, R and I either are reminded of other songs, or try to make a connection to other songs as well as what bands they seem to sound like to us.

When Taylor Swift first came out with the song Shake It Off and it was all over the radio I heard it and actually didn't know it was her at all. I'm quite terrible at realizing what songs are Swift songs really, I seriously did not know this was her song until I shazam'd it with my phone.

After finding out it was Taylor I then took a moment to listen to the whole song and felt that something about it reminded me of La Roux, more specifically the song In for the Kill, which is a popular one of theirs if I remember correctly.

It is the chorus of Swift's Shake If Off song that reminds me of La Roux, something about the way she is singing, and the beat of the song, the tune, it just has that La Roux feel to it!

The songs on their own are very very different from one another, but the chorus on both songs just share some similarities to me that I connect them in my head.

Nathan for Happy Endings

Casey Wilson
Nathan For You screen shot with
Gabrielle Romero, shop owner.

Sometimes when watching TV shows or movies, R and I like to compare celebrities either to other celebrities or to people we know.

This is another one of those odd ones that left me needing to screen shot an episode to get the right angle for the lady who I felt looked like an actress.

One of R and I's favorite TV shows that got cancelled was called Happy Endings and there was a character named Penny played by the actress Casey Wilson. She's hilarious and I love her ah-MAH-zing catch phrase.

Another favorite hilarious show that we both love a whole lot and want more new episodes of is Nathan For You. While watching this episode about a clothing store, season 1, episode 3, the lady who ran the store (this is the one where Nathan tells her to allow shoplifting to get customers), she looks like Casey Wilson to me! Some of her features, not all of course. It was really the angles sometimes that did it for me. I did some googling and found that the woman's name from the episode is Gabrielle Romero, and whenever I see her I am reminded of Penny from Happy Endings. It was Gabrielle's eye shape that really reminded me of Casey Wilson.

Empire of Gary Numan

R was listening to some random compilation of songs [a while back] and Gary Numan’s M.E. came on. His voice sure sounded familiar! Besides reminding me of himself, he also reminded us of other singers. To me the sound of the song M.E.at around 35 seconds the verse reminded me of Phoenix’s song Lisztomania, the tune. But his voice totally reminded R of Empire of the Sun’s lead singer’s voice! Then when we listened to Empire of the Sun’s song Walking on a Dream it absolutely reminded us of Gary Numan’s song Cars! Kind of like Walking on a Dream was a mix of Cars and something else.
Listen and hear the similarities R and I do!

Detective Bad

Michelle Monaghan
Betsy Brandt

Sometimes when watching TV shows or movies, R and I like to compare celebrities either to other celebrities or to people we know.

I can't fully remember if this was an R and I agreed thing, but I am pretty sure I had pointed it out to him at some point and he agreed.

Breaking Bad is R's favorite show ever, so naturally we binge watched all the seasons in time for the final season to air and watched those episodes as they aired. We are full invested in that show. So when it ended we were left to search for new shows to fill the void and we tried many many shows but none seemed to do it.

Though for a while there True Detective definitely had us hooked, and that is where this comparison comes in. I was watching True Detective passively at my parent's house while raiding the kitchen for food, and even though I had already seen the whole short season I only noticed who the character Maggie, played by Michelle Monaghan, really reminded me of in that moment in the kitchen watching the massive tv from over the counter top.

Michelle Monaghan completely reminds me of Betsy Brandt, Marie from Breaking Bad. Some photos they don't look so similar, but there is enough there for me to make the connection between the two!

Andre Devilskin

Tina Majorino
Jennie Skulander

Sometimes when watching TV shows or movies, R and I like to compare celebrities either to other celebrities or to people we know.
This comparison is a bit odd and all on me.
Basically R showed me this band Devilskin and their song Start a Revolution, and I really really liked the song! I would play it over and over again without really paying attention to the music video playing in the background on youtube, because half the time I just throw on music to listen not to watch. But this one time I was watching it, and I noticed the lead singer, Jennie Skulander, when she was looking up and around and making faces almost, she looked a lot like that actress I had just recently seen in a small role on True Blood.
The actress I was thinking of I didn't just know from True Blood, she barely had a part in that show, it was just the most recent thing that I had seen her in. I'm talking about Tina Majorino, the little girl from Andre, and Deb in Napoleon Dynamite.
Because of this comparison I was making in my mind I googled the lead singer of Devilskin to find her name, Jennie Skulander, and see if she looked like Tina Majorino all the time. But not she does not, she looks much different, it's just that in the music video for Start a Revolution that scene where she is in a street jacket and singing and looking up and around and such, something about the way her face looks in those moments reminded me of Tina Majorino.
That's why the photos of Jennie Skulander are screenshots from the Start a Revolution music video.

Eyes Wide Set Go

While listening to music, R and I either are reminded of other songs, or try to make a connection to other songs as well as what bands they seem to sound like to us.

I'm sure most people who listen to the radio had a phase where they loved Gotye for a while, or at least 'that one song on the radio' with that Kimbra chick. Well I won't deny that I got obsessed with Gotye's work for a moment there because of his song Somebody That I Used to Know. I looked up his older stuff and listened to all his work for a minute there, never really memorized it all, but I did get a favorite song out of it that wasn't on his recent hit album, so that was nice at least.

Anyway, while listening to all these songs I made an odd connection to a random song I heard maybe once while surfing around youtube. The song called Ready Set Go by Royal Tailors reminded me of the Gotye song Eyes Wide Open. Actually while listening to this Royal Tailors song it triggered a Gotye memory and I started to listen to the songs until I made the connection with the Eyes Wide Open song of his.

The chorus in Ready Set Go where the words 'ready set go' are literally being sung reminds me of the line 'everything we had everything we did' in Gotye's Eyes Wide Open song, which is about 0:29 in to this song.

There's slight differences of course, but similar enough for me to make the connection! This one bothered me for a bit too, because I could not figure out what song my brain was trying to think of for a while.
